The Lake Maggiore and its islands

Lake Maggiore is a pre-alpine lake, the second largest in Italy. Between Stresa and Verbania is the archipelago of the Borromean Islands: Isola Madre, Isola Bella and Isola dei Pescatori.

Isola Bella

It is entirely occupied by the Italian garden of Palazzo Borromeo with an incredible variety of exotic plants.

Isola Madre

It is the largest island of the Borromeo Islands. It is occupied by some construction and it is mainly famous for the large and spectacular garden that is still considered one of the best examples of this art in Italy.

Isola dei Pescatori

It is the only island in Lago Maggiore permanently inhabited, with the particular multi-storey houses with long balconies (for drying fish). Narrow alleys where in summer tourists buy local crafts in the small but famous market.

Lake Mergozzo

The Lago Mergozzo, located close to the Lake Maggiore and framed by the Alpine chain of Monte Rosa, for the clarity of its waters is ranked in the top three cleanest lakes in Europe.

Ideal for lovers of peace and water sports (swimming, wind-surfing, canoeing, fishing), Lago Mergozzo is also a starting point for many excursions between lake and mountains.

Val Grande National Park

The Val Grande National Park is the largest wilderness area of Alps and Italy. Possible excursions allow tourists to be in the heart of the park and fully immerse themselves in nature.

Toce Waterfall

It is a waterfall located in the municipality of Formazza at an altitude of 1675 asl. It is considered one of the most spectacular in the Alps.

Devero

It's a protected natural park located in the Val d'Ossola. In summer tourists can take a multitude of walks besides the possibility to make several climbs.

Villa Taranto

They are botanical gardens located on the western shores of Lake Maggiore. Home to tens of thousands of plants with flowered avenues considered among the most beautiful in Europe.

Bicycle lane of Lake Maggiore

From Camping La Quiete with the bike you can reach through the cycle route the particular village of Feriolo or the town of Ornavasso.
